Work underway on major Rotherham leisure scheme

Construction has begun on Rotherham’s Forge Island development, which will be home to a state-of-the-art cinema, 69-room hotel, and five restaurants providing food from around the world.

The £47M development is being delivered by developer, Muse, in partnership with Rotherham Council.

According to Muse, once complete, the new destination will provide something for residents and families to enjoy right in the heart of Rotherham town centre, which will include a variety of amenities.

Rotherham Council’s Leader, Cllr Chris Read, said: “Forge Island is the flagship development in our town centre masterplan, so it fantastic to see work happening on site. Over the next few months, residents will be able to watch as the site begins to take shape.

“It is exciting to think that Forge Island will offer the first cinema in Rotherham in 30 years, and about the opportunities for residents to enjoy a range of exotic food and drink.

“The hotel will provide visitors a base camp so they can explore everything Rotherham has to offer.”

Raife Gale, Senior Development Manager at Muse, said: “Since we were appointed as the council’s partner for Forge Island in 2018, we’ve worked tirelessly together to reach this point where we’re on site and we can’t wait to deliver this exciting destination for the community.

“Demand to come to Forge Island has been incredible and we’ve assembled a real feast of fantastic operators and amenities to join us in our mission to create an attractive leisure destination with a social purpose that becomes at catalyst for further investment and regeneration in the town.”
