Steel checks in for Grosvenor Square hotel project
Working on behalf of main contractor Multiplex, Severfield is currently fabricating, supplying and erecting the steelwork for a new hotel project housed in the former US Embassy on London’s Grosvenor Square.
Being built for Rosewood Hotels & Resorts and in partnership with developer Qatari Diar, it will be known as The Chancery Rosewood and aims to be the UK’s first five-star hotel with a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.
The project is led by David Chipperfield Architects will include 139 spacious guest rooms and suites designed by Joseph Dirand, publicly accessible spaces including a variety of formal and casual dining and entertainment spaces including a grand ballroom.
The design team say the building’s original features and mid-20th Century design details, including the iconic Grade II façade and diagrid ceiling, will be retained through a meticulous preservation process, with a mission to reinforce and enhance the original vision of a ‘palace on the park.’
Said to take inspiration from the sophistication of the 1920s and the creativity and glamour of the 1960s, the project design will draw from a warm, rich colour palette and feature refined, Art Deco-style detailing, walnut panelling and marble and brass accents, altogether channelling the ambiance of a traditional British gentlemen’s club.
