Preferred contractor named for multi-million-pound Suffolk community hub

Posted on by in Weekly News

Morgan Sindall has been selected as a preferred contractor to deliver the Western Way development in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

The company said it was chosen following a rigorous and competitive process under the national Pagabo Framework.

The multi-million-pound scheme includes the replacement of the town’s ageing leisure centre and new community health facilities on behalf of the NHS.

The Western Way development brings together a range of partners from the public services and the private sector. It is said that the scheme will provide new facilities for the community that will be easier to access and will help improve wellbeing.

The project will repurpose a 10,000m2, 1960s depot building on the Olding Road site and incorporate the use of renewables, such as solar and battery storage.

Cllr John Griffiths, Leader of West Suffolk Council, said: “The Western Way Development is a nationally ground-breaking initiative which will transform the way public services work together.

“This is an exemplar of the One Public Estate ethos while at the same time creating new and better jobs.”

Peter Whitmore, Managing Director for Morgan Sindall Construction’s East region, said: “We’re delighted that West Suffolk Council have entrusted Morgan Sindall Construction with what promises to be a transformative development for Bury St Edmunds and the wider community.”
