Outline planning submitted for new West Suffolk hospital

Posted on by in Weekly News

Plans have been submitted by West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust for a new replacement hospital in Bury St Edmunds.

Forming part of the Government’s Hospital building programme, the new 100,000m2 hospital is designed by Ryder Architecture. The project’s buildings will consist of structures up to seven storeys high and it will be built on town’s Hardwick Manor parkland.

According to the trust’s planning statement, the proposals would deliver a nationally significant new state-of-the-art hospital in Bury St Edmunds which will deliver 21st Century healthcare and keep this regionally important facility within the community.

The plans also include the demolition of the existing hospital buildings and construction of up to 100,000m2 of associated infrastructure.

Trust Interim Chief Executive Craig Black said: “The outline planning application seeks permission for the initial impression of the project and how it might fit into its surroundings.

“We thank everyone who has participated in the engagement opportunities we have provided so far; your input is invaluable, and we look forward to working with you all as the project progresses.”
