Posted on by in Weekly News

The May issue of New Steel Construction (NSC) is now available in both digital and print formats that will be arriving in the post this week.

Anyone who does not receive the print magazine and would like a free subscription (UK and Ireland only) should visit www.steelconstruction.info while readers who prefer the digital offering of NSC can find it at www.newsteelconstruction.com

This month’s cover story is 4 Angel Square, the latest steel-framed office block at the NOMA mixed-use scheme in Manchester. Sustainability is at the heart of the building’s design, which aims to achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.

Green Park is a new railway station being built in Reading, on the busy line to Basingstoke. Prefabricated steel elements for the main station building and footbridge allowed the project team to overcome safety concerns and technical challenges.

Also in Reading, the existing Rivermead Leisure Centre is being replaced with a new steel-framed facility that includes a 25m-long, eight-lane swimming pool; a diving pool; six-court sports hall; a gym, as well as a café and soft play zone.

Emergency services in the South East are about to get a boost as a new multi-purpose ambulance, 999 and NHS 111 centre is being constructed in Gillingham. A steel-framed solution has been chosen for its speed of construction.

Structural steelwork has been used to form the longest spans of the 1.5km-long Barking Riverside Viaduct. The structure forms an integral element of a new railway extension that will serve London’s largest housing-led mixed-use development.

NSC also features industry news, a Steel for Life headline sponsor article, a technical article and advisory desk from the Steel Construction Institute, and codes and standards updates.
