Manchester steel-framed commercial scheme completes

Number 1 Spinningfields, the tallest office block to be built in Manchester has reached practical completion and BAM Construction has handed the building over to the client Allied London.

Designed by architect SimpsonHaugh, this world-class building marks the final phase of development of the Spinningfields masterplan.

1 Spinningfields is a steel-framed block consisting of 20-storeys, and featuring three cantilevering facades and a fully glazed exterior.

Allied London Chief Executive Michael Ingall commented: “We are delighted to reach what is a milestone for this project and also a great milestone for the wider Spinningfields development.

“Spinningfields has achieved its vision and will now without doubt continue to sustain and develop as the corporate heartbeat of the city and continue to set a benchmark for the development of city centre commercial environments.”

BAM Construction Director Tony Grindrod said: “To achieve construction of such a large, high-quality building within just 106 weeks and meet the required Practical Completion date, the team had to overcome a number of challenges along the way. All of them had the potential to push completion further and further past the end date, but the BAM team with our supply chain and Allied London’s team pulled together in a genuine one team approach to address each and every one of those challenges to prevent potential delays from happening.”

The Steel contractor was William Hare and the company erected 3,500t of steel for the project.
