Historic Edinburgh gas holder to get make-over

Taziker Industrial, working on behalf of main contractor McLaughlin & Harvey, has been awarded the contract to restore an historic gas holder in the Scottish capital.

The B-listed Granton gas holder, which is located on Edinburgh’s waterfront area, was originally built and used to deliver gas to the city.

Standing 76.8m-tall, the structure has been unused for many years and the City of Edinburgh Council plans to re-purpose the gas holder into a waterfront public space.

Taziker’s scope of works includes the provision of access, steelwork repair, surface preparation and protective coatings.

David Field, Regional Director Scotland, Taziker Industrial said: “We look forward to delivering this logistically challenging project with our client McLaughlin & Harvey and leaving a lasting legacy for the local community to enjoy.

“The Taziker team in Scotland are very proud and excited to be playing our part in the transformation of this area of the capital city from a post-industrial brownfield site into a vibrant new neighbourhood.”

Graham Brown, Contracts Manager, McLaughlin & Harvey said, “McLaughlin & Harvey is happy to engage Taziker as our structural steelwork refurbishment subcontractor. The refurbished gas holder will be the focal point to an exciting multifunctional public space for the local community to enjoy.”
