February issue of New Steel Construction out now

The February issue of New Steel Construction (NSC) is now available in both digital and print formats that will be arriving in the post this week.

Anyone who does not receive the print magazine and would like a free subscription (UK and Ireland only) should visit www.steelconstruction.info while readers who prefer the digital offering of NSC can find it at: www.newsteelconstruction.com

This issue’s cover story is a new school for 60 young people with social, emotional and mental health needs being built in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. The client chose a steel-framed solution for the project as it offered the most cost-effective design.

In a second education sector feature, the City of London Academy Highgate Hill is expanding its premises with the construction of a steel-framed extension. The new building will contain a multi-purpose hall and teaching spaces.

Located in Camberley, Surrey, STIHL, the manufacturer of chainsaws and outdoor power equipment, is constructing a new HQ and warehouse. The project team say steel was the obvious choice for the project, not just for its quick programme, but because it also offered an efficient way to form the warehouse’s long spans.

In Canada Water, London, a number of long-span steel trusses form the open-plan spaces for a basement leisure centre, while supporting six floors of office space above. The mixed-use building is aiming to achieve a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating.

And at Ellesmere Port, steelwork erection has recently completed on what is said to be the biggest single cross-docked warehouse to be developed in the North West during the past 12 months.

NSC also features a Steel for Life Gold Sponsor article, industry news, a technical article and advisory desk from the Steel Construction Institute, and codes and standards updates.
