Coventry to get Olympic-sized swimming pool
Main contractor Galliford Try has signed a contract with Coventry City Council to build its new 50m swimming pool at the Alan Higgs leisure centre.
The £11M development is being built within the centre, on the former indoor 3G football pitch and includes an eight-lane, 50m swimming pool with moveable floors and beams and a 500-spectator pool viewing gallery.
As part of the development an additional health suite with sauna, steam room and jacuzzi will be created, alongside swimming education rooms and expansion to the fitness suite and function rooms
The new pool will offer public swimming sessions, swimming lessons, and aquatic-based sports, alongside hosting swimming events and galas.
Galliford Try East Midlands Managing Director Jonathan Marston commented: “We are delighted to have been selected for this exciting project in Coventry. This is the kind of public facility that makes a real difference to the people of the area and we look forward to creating a building that will be used and enjoyed by the local community for years to come.”
