Bus station kick starts Gloucester regeneration

Posted on by in Weekly News

bus160602Construction work is underway on a new bus station for Gloucester, a project that will act as a catalyst for the planned city centre regeneration project.

Kier Construction will deliver the new bus station once on going demolition work is completed.

Plans for the new transport hub include a modern fully enclosed concourse, 12 bus bays, a manned ticket office, electronic timetable displays, a new cafe and CCTV.

According to the project architect BDP, the highly transparent building will provide maximum visual contact with its surroundings and a calm, airy environment. A wide public concourse, with a full height glazed façade, allows sufficient circulation space as well as waiting and seating areas for individual stands.

While construction work is being carried out, the existing bus station will remain fully functioning and existing bus routes and stops are not expected to change.

Cllr Paul James, leader of Gloucester City Council and cabinet member for regeneration, said: “I’m very excited to start the work on the new bus station and am really pleased with the progress we’ve made already.”
