BCSA member achieves level 2 BIM certification

Posted on by in Weekly News

BIM160331The Bourne Group has become one of the first steelwork contractors to be successfully audited under the Steel Construction Building Information Modelling (BIM) Charter by demonstrating its compliance with PAS91-2013 and achieving Level 2 BIM.

Ahead of the UK Governments 2016 deadline for BIM implementation on government construction projects, Bourne achieved Level 2 BIM compliance through the British Constructional Steel Association (BCSA).

Bourne Group Associate Engineering and BIM Director, James Bichard said: “This accreditation is underpinned by a long-term investment by the Group in BIM technology. We are very proud to be providing our clients with cutting edge BIM capability and leading the way in the steelwork industry. Level 3 is next on the horizon.”

The BCSA developed the Steel Construction Building Information Modelling Charter for Member companies.
By signing up to the BCSA Charter a company will endorse the objectives of the Steel Construction BIM Charter as follows:

  1. To maximise the beneficial use of technology in the design, manufacturing and delivery of steel in construction, in order to enhance the sustainability of steel as a form of construction in terms of economic viability, social progress and environmental responsibility.
  2. The company will build on its knowledge of BIM and willingly share it with others. It will be open and active in its communications and it will help steel and construction companies and other organisations in the supply chain to implement BIM policies.
  3. The company will foster an environment of collaboration on all projects and align its working practices around the core principle of sharing information openly with all other interested parties.
